The 2026 Burris Optics Team Challenge runs June 25–28, 2026, on private 17,000+ acre ranches near Douglas, Wyoming. This is a hard, field-oriented team match built for experienced shooters who want a true stress test, not a square-range competition.
Teams of two will operate under time constraints while moving through rugged terrain at ~5,200 ft elevation, locating, ranging, and engaging unknown targets with rifle, carbine, and pistol. One shooter is designated long-range rifle, the other carbine, with strict weapon role separation throughout the match. Expect long movements on foot, compromised shooting positions, reactive steel, and physically demanding stages where gear management matters as much as shooting skill.
Match format highlights:
- 3-day event with long field hikes, timed assault stages, and a standards stage
- Rifle targets to ~1,000 yards, carbine to ~600, pistol to ~60
- Significant movement while on the clock; all gear carried by the team
- Unknown distances and non-standard reactive steel targets
- Approx. minimum round counts: 110 rifle / 220 carbine / 50 pistol per shooter
- Physical difficulty rated 6 (hard); marksmanship complexity rated 8 (very hard)
Shooter Insight:
This match punishes poor conditioning and inefficient gear setups; teams that can move, communicate, and manage fatigue will outperform technically stronger but slower shooters.
