Long Range Shooting Events & Competitions

overview

The Cactus Classic runs March 27–29, 2026, at Hawk’s Double Mountain Ranch, overlooking the Brazos River in West Texas. Designed for NRL Hunter competitors, this match emphasizes hunting-inspired stages across steep canyons, natural terrain, and constantly changing winds.

Expect a physically demanding course with minimal logistical friction; parking and road access remain solid in all weather, and shooters can access their vehicles during the match. The schedule includes an RO shoot day and mandatory shooter meeting on Friday (with a shrimp boil), 11 stages on Saturday, and the remaining 9 stages plus awards on Sunday. Lunch is provided both days.

Key Details:

  • Field-style, hunting-inspired stages in rugged canyon terrain
  • Challenging wind calls and angled shots; not a flat-range match
  • ~20 total stages over two days; smooth flow with stages open both days
  • On-site lodging available (limited; bunkhouse or cabins)
  • Strict ranch gate times; no refunds (slot transfers allowed)

Shooter Insight:

This match rewards fitness and wind-reading more than pure positional efficiency, come prepared to move and manage fatigue.
