The Heart Mountain Challenge returns in late June 2026 to historic Heart Mountain north of Cody, Wyoming. This two-day, high-altitude precision rifle competition brings together more than 150 elite military and civilian marksmen to test skill, endurance, and judgment in support of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF).
Designed as a demanding field match, competitors engage difficult, timed targets across two separate shooting areas over rugged mountain terrain exceeding 7,000 feet in elevation. Shooters rotate areas on day two to ensure equal exposure to both sides of the course.
- Timed long-range stages with targets extending to 2,000 yards
- High-altitude environment with steep angles and complex wind
- Two-course layout with group rotation on day two
- Mix of former/current Special Operators and advanced civilian shooters
- Concludes with a Sunday awards dinner supporting SOWF families
Shooter Insight:
Expect thin air, shifting mountain wind, and physically taxing movement, data that works at sea level may not hold here.
