overview

The Mason Valley Steel Hunter returns for its 5th year at Mason Valley Ranch near Julian, CA, bordering Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. This NRL Hunter-format match is built for shooters who can manage terrain, time, and decision-making; not just square-range precision.

Set across 8,500 acres of high desert at 2,400 ft ASL, competitors will hike to most shooting locations and engage steel targets from roughly 100 to 1,000 yards. Expect rocky ground, low scrub, and dry conditions typical of Southern California in late winter.

Match Details:

  • NRL Hunter-style field match
  • 20 total stages (10 Saturday, 10 Sunday)
  • Target distances: ~100–1,000 yards
  • Mandatory hiking between stages
  • Friday check-in and 100-yard zero only (no long-range validation)
