The TRT Sniper Challenge is a two-day team sniper match held at Thorson Ranch Training near White Sulphur Springs, Montana. Run as a charity event benefiting The Reason Outdoors, the match combines modern PRS-style execution with traditional sniper problem-solving.
Teams of two complete 16 total stages across varied ranch terrain, typically shooting ten stages on day one and six on day two. Stages alternate between known-distance speed shoots and blind “find, range, engage” problems where target detection and ranging are part of the challenge. While movement and positional work are required, the match is deliberately not a ruck march or an endurance race.
What to expect:
- Two-man team format with flexible shooter/spotter roles
- Mix of PRS-style speed stages and blind sniper problems
- Emphasis on wind reading, communication, and stage planning
- Long-range rifle plus pistol integration
- Field movement between stages; carry-what-you-use setup
- Remote Montana terrain with changing conditions
Shooter Insight:
This match rewards disciplined teamwork and clean fundamentals more than raw speed; teams that rush blind stages usually bleed points.
