Capitan Shooting Sports in Capitan, NM, is a historic 1,000-yard range built for serious precision shooters. It offers F-Class, Across-the-Course, and Smallbore competition on electronic targets.
Capitan Shooting Sports, Inc. is a 100% NRA-affiliated, member-based range in southern New Mexico's mountains. Founded on post-WWII high-power roots and formalized in 1957, this nonprofit club now owns its land. It hosts a full slate of competitive rifle disciplines year-round.
The main range supports long-range shooting to 1,000 yards, with 15 firing points and fully electronic targets. While the original 800- and 900-yard lines are offline due to terrain degradation, the 600- and 1,000-yard lines remain active for both F-Class and sling shooters. High Power Across-the-Course matches are held regularly, challenging shooters through 200, 300, and 600-yard stages in standing, sitting, and prone positions.
A separate 100-yard smallbore range features a covered line and hosts prone matches, F-Class .22LR, and multiple state and regional championships. The club's calendar is packed with leagues, clinics, and matches from March to October, including CMP Vintage Rifle, State F-Class, and Palma events.
