Hobbs Island Shooting Range (HISR) is a private facility located just southeast of Huntsville, Alabama. It offers a controlled environment for precision rifle work, tactical handgun training, and carbine drills. While the max range cap is 380 yards, it makes up for that with steel at distance, PRS-style barricades, and a strong lineup of scenario-based courses.
The long-range lanes have concrete benches, downrange steel from 250 to 380 yards, and paper target stands. A separate Steel Park includes reactive targets, hostage silhouettes, and training mannequins. Five action bays allow for dynamic movement and certified holster draw. At the same time, props like rails and barrels simulate real-world barricade shooting.
This is a members-only range, with Silver and Gold tiers unlocking additional benefits like free action bay access and Steel Park time. Guests are restricted, and non-members can participate in events like Project Appleseed, GLOCK Operator Courses, or defensive pistol programs with John Murphy or Brian Hoffner.
The terrain has natural berms, minimal shade, and wind variability past 250 yards, making it a solid venue for positional shooting under real conditions. While HISR doesn't reach ELR distances, it's a regional asset for PRS competitors, LE/MIL personnel, and serious shooters looking to hone practical rifle and pistol skills.
