Pecos Rifle and Pistol Club in Pecos, Texas, is an 800-yard desert high-power range known for service rifle matches, Run ’n Gun events, and demanding West Texas wind conditions.

Wide-open desert terrain and uninterrupted West Texas wind define the shooting experience at Pecos Rifle and Pistol Club, where firing lines extend to an 800-yard rifle range across a raw, sun-exposed 160-acre range. The facility is deeply rooted in traditional high-power and service rifle competition, with known-distance shooting emphasizing prone fundamentals, positional discipline, and environmental reading under harsh conditions. Long sightlines, sparse vegetation, and steady crosswinds create a demanding environment for refining elevation data, and wind calls beyond standard mid-range distances are common.
Beyond classic NRA-style rifle programs, Pecos also hosts physically demanding Run ’n Gun events that combine rifle and pistol stages with long-distance movement through natural terrain, forcing shooters to engage targets from improvised positions under fatigue. Blackpowder cartridge matches and steel buffalo gongs add another layer of traditional long-range culture, giving the club a rugged competition-focused identity rather than a casual recreational range atmosphere.
