This two-day Intro to Long Range Precision course is built for shooters stepping into long-range work with a structured, fundamentals-first approach. Led by Tony Cowden, the training covers the core mechanics behind consistent precision, including rifle setup, ballistic theory, and how environmental factors influence bullet flight. The focus is on building repeatable processes that translate directly to real-world shooting.

Students work through zero confirmation, trajectory validation, and practical application of ballistic solvers such as the Kestrel with Applied Ballistics. Instruction is hands-on, with shooters learning to generate and apply firing solutions in real time rather than relying solely on theory. Wind reading is introduced at a practical level, providing students with a working framework for making corrections and understanding misses.

Live fire is centered around steel target engagements at distance, reinforcing data collection and shot execution. Expect a steady progression from confirmed zero to extended-range shooting, with coaching focused on consistency, shooter input, and efficient use of gear.

Key training areas include:

  • Rifle and optic setup for long-range consistency
  • Zeroing process and validation at distance.
  • Ballistic solver setup and real-time data application
  • Environmental effects, including wind and atmospherics
  • Ammunition consistency and its impact on trajectory
  • Shooter fundamentals and recoil management

Student rifles and gear are available for rent, making this accessible for newer shooters without a full setup. Personal equipment should meet accuracy standards, including a sub-MOA-capable rifle, a first focal plane optic with a usable reticle, and consistent match ammunition. A Kestrel 5700 is strongly recommended for full participation.
