This 1.5-day Long Range Shooting 101 course is designed to give beginner and intermediate shooters a structured introduction to practical long-range rifle shooting without overcomplicating the process. Hosted on a private range outside Nephi, Utah, the class combines classroom-style instruction with guided live-fire coaching to help shooters understand why shots fail and how to build a repeatable system behind the rifle.

Students work through rifle setup, optic configuration, ballistic software integration, and environmental considerations that directly affect impacts downrange. Instructors place heavy emphasis on understanding equipment rather than blindly relying on technology, covering everything from turret tracking and ballistic truing to gear selection and field-expedient shooting aids.

Range training focuses on building stable shooting fundamentals and practical corrections under realistic conditions. Small class sizes capped at 10 shooters allow for direct instructor feedback throughout the course, with coaching tailored to both new and moderately experienced shooters.

Key training areas include:

  • Rifle setup and confidence-building behind the gun
  • Understanding why long-range shots fail
  • Ballistics, trajectory truing, and solver setup
  • Optic function, turret use, and reticle application
  • Wind reading fundamentals and environmental awareness
  • Natural Point of Aim and respiratory control
  • Ranging techniques when electronics fail
  • Tripod, shooting bag, and improvised support utilization
  • Understanding ballistic calculators and rangefinders
  • Evaluating useful gear versus unnecessary gimmicks

Students should bring a rifle capable of sub-MOA accuracy, a scope with adjustable turrets, hearing and eye protection, and weather-appropriate gear for changing Utah conditions. Shooting mats, suppressors, hydration, tools, and lunch on range day are provided, along with a meet-and-greet BBQ. This course is best suited for newer long-range shooters, western hunters, and rifle owners looking to establish solid fundamentals before advancing into more technical precision rifle training.
