Long Range Shooting Events & Competitions

overview

The Ruger American Long Hunter Challenge runs March 27–29, 2026, at Ben Franklin Range near Templeton, Pennsylvania. This is an NRL Hunter event built around real-world hunting skills rather than square-range shooting.

Designed by experienced competitors William Righter and Aaron Martin, the match caters to both first-time NRL Hunter shooters and seasoned competitors. Expect physically demanding days, realistic stage design, and decision-making under fatigue, very much a “pack in, hunt all day” format.

Key Details:

  • 18 stages across natural, mountainous terrain
  • Engagements from roughly 50 to 1,000 yards
  • Mix of prone, positional, and improvised shooting
  • Mandatory pack-in; no returning to vehicles during the day
  • Lunch provided on Saturday and Sunday; water on course.
  • Variable late-March weather; cold mornings and rain possible

Shooter Insight:

This match rewards fitness, efficient gear setup, and mental pacing as much as ballistic skill.
