Founded in 1955, Avenal Gun Club is a private, member-only shooting facility located in the foothills west of California’s Central Valley. At the same time, the club supports multiple disciplines, including pistol, .22 rimfire, trap, archery, and high-power rifle. It is widely recognized within the precision rifle community for its demanding long-range and PRS-style events.
Long-Range Capability:
- Member rifle access out to 900 yards
- PRS match stages typically range from 200 to 1,200 yards
- Steel-heavy stage layouts across natural terrain
What sets Avenal apart is its terrain. Instead of a single flat firing line, shooters engage targets across hillsides, canyons, and varied elevations. Shifting wind corridors, angled shots, and natural elevation changes create a realistic field-style experience. Matches often involve hiking 2–4 miles between stages, combining prone, barricade, and positional shooting under time pressure.
Operating through Avenal Tactical, the club hosts PRS Pro Series two-day matches, Southwest Regional qualifiers, hunter-style competitions, and UKD team formats. Stage design prioritizes wind-reading, movement efficiency, and practical problem-solving over static benchrest shooting.
Avenal is best suited for competitive precision rifle shooters seeking a physically demanding, terrain-driven match environment within California’s Southwest PRS circuit.
