Set in the rugged desert north of Wikieup, Arizona, Big Sandy Range is best known for its twice-yearly machine gun shoots hosted by MG Shooters LLC. However, behind the public spectacle lies a severe test and training facility.
The Big Sandy Test Center, affiliated with the event site, quietly supports engagements out to 1,500 meters using a 100-meter moving target track system. This makes it one of the few locations in the U.S. where reactive steel, vehicle-mounted platforms, and aerial targets converge for real-world precision applications.
The public firing line stretches roughly 1,000 meters, with natural berms and desert terrain that support bench-rest and prone positions. However, scoped rifles are time-regulated during events. While the main attraction caters to belt-fed and sub-gun shooters, the Test Center accommodates vehicle—and aircraft-based drills, scenario-specific live fire, and customized ballistic testing.
There’s no traditional membership model—access is granted through event registration or private booking. Standard shooter passes run around $400, with Test Center pricing arranged separately.
Ideal for long-range shooters seeking dynamic, wind-influenced conditions, ELR testers, or private instructors needing flexible training infrastructure outside the public eye.
