Located just south of Payson, AZ, the Jim Jones Shooting Range, managed by the Tonto Rim Sports Club (TRSC), provides a quiet, forested environment for precision rifle work to 300 yards.
Managed on U.S. Forest Service land, this club-run facility balances community-minded shooting with access for serious marksmen.
The range includes:
- A 100-yard public range, open Saturdays from 9 AM–2 PM
- 200- and 300-yard rifle ranges for members only
- Six pistol bays, shaded with portable tables
- An archery range with an 80-meter line and 3D field targets
The 300-yard high-power range stands out for rifle shooters, supporting prone, bench, and positional work. However, there are no steel targets or PRS barricades on-site. Ammo rules prohibit tracer, incendiary, and steel-core rounds, and firearm safety is strictly enforced. The rules do not detail drawing from a holster but are likely limited to controlled conditions.
Membership costs $100/year and includes a family. Members gain 24/7 access via a gate card, limited guest entry, and participation in club matches. Public visitors are restricted to the 100-yard range on Saturdays for a $10 cash fee.
This range suits rural marksmen, high-power shooters, and club-based precision practice. It is not ELR or PRS-level distances, but it is a valuable option for consistent 300-yard training in a cool, wooded setting.
