This one-day Mountain Marksmanship School delivers a focused, field-relevant training experience built around real hunting and long-range application. Set at Flying Spear Outfitters’ base camp, the course blends classroom instruction with live-fire progression, giving shooters a clear understanding of how to set up, validate, and apply their rifle system under realistic conditions.

You’ll cover core fundamentals, including optics selection and setup (FFP vs SFP, MOA vs MIL), scope leveling, ballistic solvers, and the relationships among velocity, BC, and real-world impacts. The course also breaks down internal and external ballistics, wind fundamentals, and effective range considerations for ethical hunting. Expect practical guidance on ammunition selection, barrel twist, and how to true your data for consistent results.

Training is hands-on throughout the day. You’ll confirm zero at 100 yards, then move into prone, barricade, and tripod shooting positions, applying techniques across varied scenarios. The day finishes with a guided Hunter Course preview, where you’ll engage life-size reactive targets in simulated field conditions, integrating movement, range estimation, and shot execution.

Targets extend from close-range validation out to 1 mile, reinforcing both confidence and capability at distance.

Required Gear:

  • Rifle (1 MOA or better) with exposed turrets
  • Rangefinder, bipod, tripod, rear bag
  • Ballistic calculator and 100 rounds of ammo
  • Ear protection (plus optional mat and notebook)
  • A full rental kit option is available for those without equipment.

Ideal for shooters stepping into long-range hunting or refining practical field application. Limited class size keeps instruction direct and actionable.
