Build practical long-range hunting skills through field-based precision rifle training, wind calls, ballistic data collection, and positional shooting.

The PHD (Precision Hunter Development) Course is a field-focused, long-range hunting program designed for shooters who want to improve real-world precision and extend their ethical hunting capabilities. Training combines modern precision rifle fundamentals with practical hunting applications, helping students develop a stable shooting platform, a stronger understanding of ballistics, and repeatable engagement processes under realistic environmental conditions.
Students begin by refining rifle setup, body mechanics, and proper shooting position before progressing into wind reading, quick wind formulas, zero confirmation, and D.O.P.E. management. The course emphasizes understanding bullet behavior at distance and making quick corrections during live-fire engagements. Instruction also covers shooter and observer communication, target identification, and working through both unknown- and known-distance problems commonly encountered in backcountry and open-terrain hunting scenarios.
Training is delivered through live-fire range work using steel and practical targets at varying distances. Shooters apply classroom concepts immediately through structured drills, positional shooting exercises, and team-based spotting evolutions designed to reinforce communication and decision-making under pressure.
Key training areas include:
Students are expected to arrive with a precision rifle capable of 1 MOA accuracy, a properly mounted MIL or MOA optic, a bipod, a tripod, sling, and at least 200 rounds of match-grade ammunition. Additional field gear, including a hunting backpack, notebook, sand sock, weather-appropriate clothing, and hydration equipment, is required for managing equipment throughout the course.
Recommended tools, such as a Kestrel and a ballistic computer, help streamline data collection and long-range firing solutions. Ideal for hunters looking to sharpen field marksmanship skills and build confidence in demanding long-range hunting conditions.
