Jeff Downen is a former Marine Corps Rifleman and Sig Sauer Academy “patched” Rifle and Pistol Instructor with 16 years of shooting experience, delivering practical firearms training focused on performance, safety, and real-world application.


Jeff Downen is a firearms instructor with 16 years of technical shooting experience and currently teaches with Telos Defense in Central Florida. A former United States Marine Corps Rifleman (0311), Jeff combines disciplined small-arms fundamentals with modern instructional methods to help shooters build reliable, repeatable performance under pressure.
Jeff is a Sig Sauer Academy “patched” Rifle and Pistol Instructor, bringing a standards-driven approach to weapons handling, marksmanship, and firearm manipulation. His instruction emphasizes practical application, safety, efficiency, and accountability, making his courses valuable for both newer civilian shooters and experienced practitioners looking to sharpen defensive or performance-based skills.
In addition to his firearms background, Jeff is also a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer (CF-L1). This allows him to integrate functional fitness concepts into training, helping students understand how fatigue, stress, and elevated heart rate affect shooting performance in realistic conditions.
Known for a structured, approachable teaching style, Jeff focuses on building dependable fundamentals that translate into real-world capability.
