John "JR" Ray brings elite experience to the precision shooting community. A recently retired veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, JR served 27 years as both a Police Officer and Detective, with 13 of those years spent as a full-time member of LAPD's SWAT unit, David Platoon. During his tenure, JR took on high-risk assignments as an Assaulter, Explosive Breacher, Sniper, and Firearms, He also served in the Technical Cadre, specializing in the tactical deployment of robotics and electronic devices, and supported tactical diving operations as a small boat operator.
Certified as an LAPD Handgun, Shotgun, Rifle, and Less-Lethal Instructor, JR also served as an armorer for the department's elite Metropolitan Division, maintaining platforms including the Glock, 1911, M4/AR-15, Remington 870, and HK MP5.
Before his distinguished department, JR served six years of active duty and two years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
Now teaching Scoped Carbine and Precision Rifle training courses in Zamora, CA, JR brings a no-nonsense, experience-driven approach to instruction that blends operational insight, safety, and technical mastery.
