Founded in 1953, the Powder River Sportsmen’s Club (PRSC) operates the Virtue Flat Shooting Range, a member-managed facility located east of Baker City, Oregon. The range sits on BLM land and features a 1,000-yard long-range pit, 11 practical bays, and a deep-rooted culture of community shooting, conservation, and volunteerism.
Initially built in 1965 and dedicated during a registered NRA match in 1968, the range is now home to:
- Monthly Club Long Range Matches (200–1,000 yards)
- Regional PRS, WPR, and NRL Hunter events
- Steel Varmint Silhouette matches (200–500m steel)
- USPSA Pistol under NROI-certified ROs
While general use is limited to members, the range is open to the public during organized matches, with juniors shooting their first event for free. Target distances vary, with nearly all engagements on steel — using non-ferrous ammo only, from .204 to .338. Sleds and gear carts are prohibited, and shooters must carry all equipment in one trip.
