Turkey Tracks Shooting Range

Turkey Tracks Shooting Area is a dispersed public shooting zone located 13 miles northwest of Woodland Park, off Highway 67 within Colorado’s Pike National Forest. Though frequently used by locals and visitors for recreational rifle and pistol shooting, this is not a developed range—it’s a natural pull-off area with no benches, berms, or structured safety zones.

• Shooters set up along gravel pull-offs and natural backstops. Expect uneven terrain, forest ground, and variable line of sight distances (commonly 50 to 300+ yards).
• Firearms are unrestricted—centerfire rifles, ARs, AKs, handguns, and shotguns are all commonly used.
• There are no fixed targets; users bring steel or paper on their stands.
• No covered positions, benches, or maintained lanes. All shooting is prone or freestyle from the dirt or tailgate.
• Due to repeated fire hazards, emergency closures are common. In April 2025, a human-caused fire led to full containment after 128 acres burned. Future Forest Service plans may formalize the site into a designated range with safety features and noise abatement. Still, implementation remains pending as of May 2025.

This is best suited for experienced shooters comfortable with backcountry etiquette, managing their own safety protocols, and operating in a completely unsupervised environment.

It is not ideal for structured long-range practice or new shooters.
