The Snipercraft Northeast Basic Sniper School is a 5-day law enforcement-focused course designed to prepare officers for their first operational callout or to sharpen the skills of veteran snipers returning to fundamentals. Led by 28-year SWAT sniper veteran Mike Chauvin in Granby, MA, this course blends classroom instruction with demanding field exercises to deliver actual mission readiness.
Students will build core competencies in:
- Cold bore shot execution under stress
- Fieldcraft, camouflage, observation, and detailed reporting
- Urban sniper tactics, range estimation, and hostage rescue engagements
- Intermediate barriers and moving target engagements
- Positional shooting and precision mechanics of rifles and optics
- Policy alignment, sniper data books, and equipment selection
The course is designed around the realities of LE deployments, emphasizing operational tactics and the function of sniper teams. Marksmanship is reinforced across various supported and unsupported positions, with a special focus on cold bore shots, timed drills, and practical scenario work.
Gear & Prep:
Bring a duty-ready .308 (recommended) sniper rifle with quality optic, sling, Pelican case or drag bag, 425 rounds of match-grade ammo, data book, tripod (if available), BDU uniform, body armor, ghillie/concealment gear, duty pistol, gas mask, flashlight, backpack, and complete cleaning kit. Eye and ear protection, sunscreen, insect repellent, food, and ample hydration are required.
Fitness Requirement:
All students must complete the Sniper Functional Fitness Test. Standards are available upon request.
