Intro to Long Range Hunting

This 1-day Intro to Long Range Hunting course is designed for hunters wanting to extend their effective shooting distance while maintaining accuracy and ethical shot placement in real-world conditions. Students learn the fundamentals of precision rifle marksmanship, ballistic data management, wind estimation, and positional shooting techniques commonly encountered in the field.

Training combines classroom-based ballistic instruction with live-fire practical application. Students work through range estimation, ballistic calculator setup, velocity and BC validation, and tripod-supported shooting while learning how environmental conditions influence bullet flight and impact consistency at extended distances.

Key training areas include:

• Fundamentals of long-range marksmanship
• Proper shooting mechanics and recoil control
• Wind reading and practical wind calls
• Ballistic calculator setup and trajectory validation
• Truing rifle velocity and BC data to 1,000+ yards
• Tripod shooting techniques for hunting applications
• Prone and positional shooting in field-style scenarios

Students should arrive with a sub-MOA-precision rifle, a quality optic with adjustable turrets, a bipod, a support bag, and 100 rounds of quality match or hunting ammunition. Recommended gear includes a Kestrel, rangefinder, chronograph, tripod, backpack, and ballistic app such as Hornady 4DOF.

This course is best suited for hunters and newer long-range shooters looking to build confidence behind the rifle before transitioning into more advanced mountain hunting, fieldcraft, or extended-range hunting environments.
