Develop field-proven hunting skills with precision rifle data, wind calls, and real-world shot execution in varied terrain.

This 3.5-day Long Range Hunter Course is designed to bridge the gap between range-based precision shooting and real-world hunting applications. Led by Tony Cowden, the course focuses on extending effective shooting distance while maintaining ethical shot placement. Training blends marksmanship with fieldcraft, ensuring shooters can both make the shot and position themselves correctly in the first place.
Students work through practical scenarios that mirror real hunting conditions, combining ballistic data with movement, observation, and decision-making. Instruction emphasizes using tools such as laser rangefinders and Kestrel solvers to build reliable firing solutions under field conditions. Wind reading, shot correction, and efficient rifle handling are reinforced through repeated live-fire application.
Expect a mix of prone, tripod, and alternate position shooting, with engagements designed to reflect realistic hunting scenarios rather than static range work. Field exercises such as stalking, glassing, and navigation are integrated throughout, building a complete system from target acquisition to shot execution and follow-through.
Key training areas include:
Student rifles and gear are available for those without a full setup, though most participants will benefit from running their own equipment. Rifles must be capable of sub-MOA accuracy, paired with a first focal plane optic and consistent match ammunition. A tripod, rear bag, and laser rangefinder are essential, with a Kestrel 5700 strongly recommended for full integration into the ballistic workflow.
This course is suited for hunters looking to extend their effective range and shooters wanting to apply precision rifle skills outside of controlled environments. No formal prerequisites are required, but participants should arrive prepared with a functional rifle system, confirmed zero if possible, and the ability to manage their gear in field conditions.
