Build consistent first-round impacts from 100 to 700 yards with practical mid-range rifle application and data-driven shooting.

This Mid-Range Rifle course at Thunder Ranch is built to extend a shooter’s effective range from 100 to 700 yards, with a strong emphasis on first-round hits inside 300 yards. The focus is on maximizing the performance of your rifle and optic through disciplined data collection, efficient corrections, and repeatable shot execution under realistic conditions.
Students refine core competencies, including spotting and communication, wind interpretation, and applying ballistic data through both dialing and reticle-based holdovers. Prone shooting is used to establish baseline data and confirm trajectory, then quickly shifts into field-based drills that require modified positions and adaptability.
Training is delivered through practical, scenario-driven exercises that reflect real-world engagements rather than static range work. Shooters operate in pairs to spot impacts, call corrections, and develop a reliable shooter-spotter workflow that supports consistent performance across varying distances and environmental conditions.
Key training areas include:
This course is suited to shooters looking to solidify mid-range capability and build reliable data from their rifle system. A quality rifle and optic setup is expected. Suppressors are encouraged; muzzle brakes are not permitted.
Students should arrive prepared with 400 to 600 rounds of non-frangible ammunition and be able to safely operate and maintain their rifle independently.
