Thunder Ranch, founded by Clint Smith in Oregon, is a premier firearms training facility delivering multi-day rifle and long-range courses in realistic terrain-driven environments.

Thunder Ranch is a purpose-built firearms training facility in south-central Oregon, founded by Clint Smith and widely regarded as one of the most established training destinations in the U.S. Spanning 877 acres, the facility blends structured instruction with rugged terrain to deliver practical, real-world shooting capability rather than square-range repetition.
The training philosophy is rooted in problem-solving under pressure, emphasizing mindset, safety, and consistent hits using realistic equipment setups. This is not competition-focused PRS training; it’s designed for shooters who want applied performance in hunting, defensive, or field-based environments.
The facility itself is a major asset, featuring rolling hills, forested terrain, elevated shooting positions, and ranges extending to approximately 1,200 yards, allowing for high-angle shots, variable wind conditions, and multi-directional engagements.
Key Training Areas & Courses:
Students train in dynamic environments, often hiking to firing points and engaging steel across valleys, treelines, and hillsides, forcing real-time decisions, wind calls, and corrections.
Thunder Ranch sits in a unique lane: bridging precision rifle fundamentals with practical application, making it highly relevant for serious civilian shooters, hunters, and MIL/LE professionals looking for capability, not just group size.
If you want to pressure-test your long-range ability outside the square range, Thunder Ranch is where your skill set gets exposed and built properly.
