The Extreme Long Range Precision Rifle Course at the NRA Whittington Center is designed for advanced shooters, ELR competitors, and serious long-range teams aiming to stretch their effective distance beyond 2 miles. Building on foundational skills from prior precision courses, this 3-day class fuses real-world data collection with advanced shooting techniques in one of the most ELR-capable environments in the country.
What you’ll learn:
- ELR-specific ballistics, optics setup, and equipment tuning
- Data gathering from 100 yards to 1 mile on Cooper Range
- DOPE charting and trajectory validation out to 3,700 yards
- High-angle engagement and environmental effects at extreme distance
- Real-time wind correction, mirage reading, and spotting techniques
- ELR shooting theory applied through live fire from 2,050 to 3,700 yards at Spring Canyon
How it’s delivered:
You’ll begin in the classroom with an intensive overview of ELR ballistics, optics, and marksmanship theory. Each afternoon is dedicated to live-fire data collection, first at known distances, then progressing to actual extreme range impacts. The course is paced to let teams or solo shooters push their platforms to the edge of their capability.
Where and what you’ll shoot:
- Cooper Range: 100–1,760 yards
- Spring Canyon: steel targets from 2,050 to 3,700 yards
- Natural elevation and terrain for realistic ELR challenge
Gear & prep:
- Precision rifle capable of consistent hits at 2+ miles
- Optic with at least 100 MOA/29 MIL travel (minimum 10x magnification)
- 200+ rounds (hand loads welcome)
- Spotting scope, tripod, sling, shooting mat, data book, ballistic app
- Water, bug spray, sunblock, chair, and weather protection
Special features:
This is one of the few civilian-accessible courses in the U.S. that offers practical live-fire past 2 miles. Targets are placed for real ELR competition preparation.
Not for beginners. It is designed for serious ELR shooters looking to test their limits at one of the most capable long-range venues in the country.
