The Precision Rifle – School of 1000 Yards at the NRA Whittington Center is a 3-day immersive training experience designed to extend your long-range shooting capabilities beyond what you thought possible. Tailored for hunters, competition shooters, and sporting rifle enthusiasts, this course blends classroom instruction with intensive range work to help shooters build confidence and precision at extended distances.
You'll begin with core instruction in internal/external ballistics, optics setup, environmental effects, and marksmanship principles. Field drills start at 100 yards and push out past 1,000 yards, incorporating known-distance engagements, wind correction, target transitions, and simulated match scenarios.
Each day builds on the last:
- Day 1: Zeroing, ballistic theory, and marksmanship fundamentals
- Day 2: Shooter/spotter team dynamics, environmental data gathering, DOPE building, and engagements from 200–1,000+ yards
- Day 3: Target transitions, timed stages, final lecture, and gear maintenance
Training is held on the Cooper Range, offering real-world terrain and conditions. Students will engage steel and paper at known distances while learning to correct for wind, pressure, temperature, and more. Teams work together throughout to build spotting and communication skills essential for success under pressure.
