Long-Range 1 is the first full-day progression course in Vortex Edge’s Total Shooter Program, built to take shooters beyond basic setup and into real long-range application. This course focuses on establishing a solid, repeatable process - covering rifle and optic setup, marksmanship fundamentals, and the collection of accurate ballistic data that holds up at distance.

Training is delivered through a combination of structured instruction and hands-on range work, with a strong emphasis on understanding _why_ each step matters. Shooters will work through shot group analysis, ballistic software application, chronograph use, and data validation, building a personalized DOPE profile that can be relied on outside the course. The goal is not just to hit targets, but to develop a system you can replicate under different conditions.

The course takes place on an outdoor range in Wisconsin, with engagements from 100 to 1,000 yards, primarily from the prone position. This environment introduces real-world variables while still maintaining a controlled learning structure.

Key features include:

  • Rifle and optic system setup and optimization
  • Core marksmanship fundamentals applied at distance
  • Shot group analysis and consistency tracking
  • Ballistic software integration and validation
  • Chronograph use and velocity data collection
  • DOPE building and individualized data gathering
  • Engagements from 100 to 1,000 yards (prone shooting)

Students are expected to arrive with a rifle capable of 1 MOA or better, a magnified optic with an exposed elevation turret, a bipod, match-grade ammunition, and proper range attire.

This course is best suited for shooters who already understand basic rifle handling and want to build a reliable long-range process. It sets the foundation for advancing into Long-Range 2 and 3, where more complex drills, positional work, and equipment manipulation come into play.
