The HRTC Competitive Hunter course is a unique two-day experience designed for serious hunters who want to sharpen their marksmanship through proven precision rifle match techniques. This isn't your average hunting class; it's a fast-paced, skill-rich event set across five different natural shooting ranges on HRTC's mountain property.
From day one, you'll fine-tune the fundamentals before diving into topics like external ballistics, bullet construction, wind calls, and positional shooting.
You'll also learn how to:
- Run ballistic solvers and build accurate DOPE
- Evaluate bullet terminal performance using gel blocks
- Understand barrel cleaning methods and field rifle maintenance
- Engage moving and long-range targets under realistic time constraints
- Assess your personal shooting limits in hunting-specific scenarios
The course culminates in a live-fire, walk-through hunting simulation where you'll engage game-shaped steel targets under pressure from a fast shot on a whitetail at 200 yards to a long hold on a bighorn at 600 across a canyon. Only hits in the steel "vitals" count.
Instruction is delivered on the move, lunch is eaten on the mountain, and the pace stays brisk to pack in maximum value. Still, the vibe remains friendly, with plenty of storytelling, tips, and camaraderie built in.
