Dan Herman is a seasoned USMC Scout Sniper and veteran instructor with over 25 years of operational and instructional experience. Serving a decade in the United States Marine Corps, Dan rose to Staff Sergeant and held key leadership roles, including Chief Scout Sniper and Platoon Sergeant for the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines. He later became the Senior Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge (SNCOIC) of the Mountain Scout Sniper Course at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, where he developed and submitted the program’s curriculum and POI for formal approval and funding.
His military service laid the foundation for a lifelong dedication to sniper and fieldcraft instruction. Dan has served as Chief Instructor at GPS Defense Sniper School (formerly McMillan Sniper School) and has been a Lead Instructor with the Tactical Tracking Operations School since 2007. His expertise spans long-range marksmanship, mountain warfare, tracking, land navigation, and survival.
Dan has trained military units, law enforcement teams, and civilian shooters nationwide. He is widely respected for his ability to build multidisciplinary curricula that blend sniper fundamentals with real-world applications.
